Sven-Goran Eriksson: Former England manager says he has cancer and 'best case a year' to live

No one seems to die of old age anymore. Always some sort of cancer or dementia. Sad news.
I guess there's a combination of factors, probably there used to be plenty of people dying of 'old age' who also had undiagnosed cancers. Plus general improvements in living conditions etc, most people these days have warm homes and food on the table so the cause of death just moves to something else. Everyone dies of something, so if you reduce the chances of dying of 'old age' other causes pick up.

There's probably some other factors like modern ways of living increasing the chances of some types of cancer too, but let's not open that can of worms.

I was neither Sven's biggest fan nor his harshest critic as England Manager, but I can thank him for at least in some small way reigniting my interest in football with the 1-5 in Germany back in 2001.
