could be a power supply issue, if a driver crashes clocks and utilization will drop back very low, the fact its going down to 1ghz means the card is working and requesting power its not getting, hense the drop in clocks, with regard to your psu is it very old and how have you got it wired up to your card. Are you using seprate power cables for each plug or using a spiltter cable?

whats the make and model of your gpu too?

PSU is a Corsair ShiftX 1200w, Fairly new. Card is the Sapphire 7900XTX Nitro+ variant. Connected via an extension but each of the 3 x 8 pins has its own cable. Also tried with 3 x 8 pins direct from the PSU and no extension but it made zero difference.

Didn't the 5700XT suffer from irregular clocks at some point? Was driver issue then and prob a driver issue with this.

Quite likely, I've just installed the latest beta driver, Launched Horizon Forbidden West and not seeing the stutter/low usage issue again.

Hopefully whatever they did in the release candidate makes it into the next mainstream driver.

Looking at purchasing a powercolor 7900 xtx hellhound to upgrade from a 3070ti but not had amd cards since 2015 where I had major issues with them.

Is there any known problems, issues etc with the model mentioned above? Any problems from 7900 xtx or are they generally recommended? I've never used raytracing and don't really intend to playing at 1440p 165hz with 16gb ram, 850w psu, 5800x CPU.

Thanks!

Power color seem to have dropped the ball on the early 7900xtx as they were running rather warm. I would recommend sapphire at the moment both models will do the job. Not had any problems with my 7900xtx drivers have been solid.

I bought a used Sapphire 7900XTX, I think it's the AMD reference card. It's pretty nice looking, fairly compact yet very heavy. But I had a problem, in COD Warzone I had a horrible stutter/lag, it seemed to get worse at times and almost gone at others, I bit of googling and someone suggested turning off Freesync, in Adrenalin I switched off the option for AMD Freesync Premium, this fixed the problem straight away and now it's super smooth.

My LG monitor is 1440p 144hz and Freesync premium, does anyone know why this would cause stuttering? I thought it was best to have Freesync on. I upgraded from a 3080 and I'm pretty sure I had G-Sync enabled before without issue.

What about go into the gaming tab in the driver, select Warzone. Then within that games profile open Radeon Chill and set the min/max FPS under the range of your panel. 140/140 would be fine, then see how you get on.

That's on 24.5.1.
I'll have to run some numbers. I'm quite limited with my 397w power limit though.

For the game getting stutter have you got that specific game set to "AMD Optimized" or simply "On" in the driver on it's Freesync option ? I've found sometimes different games give different results.
It's set to custom with all options off I think, still trying to get used to Adrenalin.
What about go into the gaming tab in the driver, select Warzone. Then within that games profile open Radeon Chill and set the min/max FPS under the range of your panel. 140/140 would be fine, then see how you get on.
I set a frame rate limit in game to 140 and it didn't help.

I'll just stick with Freesync off as I'm not seeing any negatives and the game runs super smooth. I'm hoping I can get a faster monitor at some point to make use of the extra frames.

haha, you got me suprised for a moment "how the hell his score is so much higher at stock settings?" LOL.. I don't even bother overclocking it anymore, just set gpu power to 115% and that's it..
