Madrid wouldn't survive in the Prem. You are looking at the Champions League as the pinnacle. It really isn't anymore. The Prem is. If it was a league format City or Liverpool would be winning it every year. Cup knockouts always end up with spawny winners.

Madrid only have to turn up 4 times a year in their league and can just rest for Champions League.

Bit like every club that has more than a few hundred thousand fans. I've never understood this weird idea that you have to have been born outside a stadium to be a real fan of that club. Its a strange stick to beat people with. What are the rules? Are you allowed to support your local big team or should you be supporting just the nearest team that plays football. How far are you allowed to go before you have to support a team in that area? 5 miles? 10 miles? Are you allowed to support a team because you like watching them or is is purely locality that determines if you are allowed to support them.

Can you move away and still support that team? Is there an amount of time you have to have adhered to the above rules before you can support that club and how long are you allowed to support them if you move away?

They didn’t really beat City over 2 legs, it was two draws and then decided by pens. In a league setup they’d have two points each.
