I have a 10900K OC to 5.3ghz and a 4080 super and it flies through everything, however...

At my family home which I visit a lot in the summer, the system is only a i7-4790K. So I'm considering putting my system I have in that one, and upgrading my main one at home.... So what CPU do you recommend this year or shall I wait for any upcoming Intels?

Cheers :D

7800X3D. Don't get a 13th or 14th gen Intel CPU if you have an Nvidia GPU

  • If your system is using an Intel 13th/14th Gen unlocked desktop CPU and is experiencing stability issues/out of video memory error messages/crash to desktop while the game is compiling shaders, please consult the following sites for troubleshooting assistance: intel.com

AFAIK only seems to affect 13900/14900 on certain motherboards. Some sporadic reports of other setups.

We believe that this is a hardware problem which affects primarily Intel 13900K and 14900K processors, less likely 13700, 14700 and other related processors as well. Only a small fraction of those processors will exhibit this behavior. The problem seems to be caused by a combination of BIOS settings and the high clock rates and power usage of these processors, leading to system instability and unpredictable behavior under heavy load.

As far as we can tell, there is not any software bug in Oodle or Unreal that is causing this. Due to what seem to be overly optimistic BIOS settings, some small percentage of processors go out of their functional range of clock rate and power draw under high load, and execute instructions incorrectly.

Mostly seems to be 13900 and 14900 which have low stability margin, mostly on Asus motherboards.

Just to give you an idea I 'upgraded' my 10900k and 4090 to a 5800x3d and the difference was night and day. Much better minimums and noticeably better highs in gaming. Doubled my framerate in Star citizen in some areas

yer thats about right the, The 11700kf i had would about as fast in games as the 5600 the boy had. and going to a 5700x3d doubled the FPS in BF2042.
and the 7800x3d was faster still
