Can I change the Xbox account details if I can't access the email?

So unfortunately my hotmail account got hacked last night and all manner of nastiness has presented itself a result.

My son is devastated. His Xbox account gamer tag uses my Hotmail account for the login. As I can no longer access that account (it has been taken over by the scammer) I need a way to "unlink" the accounts without losing access to his games. Is this possible? I cannot login to Microsoft/Xbox.

You'll need to contact MS support to try and retrieve the account, although this may hinge on whether you had a secondary email address or other security measures in place.

As always though, you really, really should have MFA enabled whenever possible.
