Currently rocking an i7 9700k that will no doubt be limiting the 7900XTX that I just bought. Mostly 4K gaming.

at 4k i don't see you having a lot of CPU problems. don't get me wrong the X3D chip will make a difference but at 4k the gpu is always the problem not the CPU

the 120mm AIO wants to be for a different CPU and not the 7900x3d...
240mm is the minimum you would be wanting now days. here is a very good one at a very good price

Ram is not a problem with X3D chips but still you want to be aiming for 6000mhz

I upgraded from the i7 9700K when the 7800X3D came out, I also game at 4K and don`t regret it as I lock my FPS to 143 and get a pretty consistent 143 in Destiny 2 and PUBG, Starfield and Jedi survivor I get around 60FPS but al games have ultra settings. I`m on a 4090FE but I think the 7900XTX has caught up a bit now and is even faster in some games. You don`t get the same gains as you do at lower resolutions but it`s still a worthwhile upgrade IMHO.

Mulling over upgrading the rest of my PC. Currently rocking an i7 9700k that will no doubt be limiting the 7900XTX that I just bought. Mostly 4K gaming. No overclocking. Quieter the better.

Total: £917.89 (includes delivery: £0.00)
Get a better motherboard and an 7800X3D instead.

A620 chipset is not really for anyone who uses their machine for more than emails and excel and a midrange motherboard isn’t much more.

Is there something in particular wrong with A620, that you're aware of?

I mean, the specs of that board look fine to me, it's not like the low-end A320 and A520 boards of old, with terrible VRMs, 2 USB ports and 1x M.2 slot if you're lucky.

No nothing per se wrong with the A620.

The B650 has a few extra features on it which for £15 more are nice.

I’m sure that the A620 boards would be fine.

Getting more and more tempted to pull the trigger on this as several games approach 80% or so on my 9700k, my current Universim save is slowly creeping from 40-60%+ as the world gets bigger.

If I did pull the trigger I think I’d go:
7800X3D
Corsair vengeance 32Gb 6000mhz
ASUS Tuf gaming B650
Arctic liquid freezer 2 360
Arctic MX6 compound
Maybe a new M2 since mine is PCIe3

This smells like a game that will eat ram.

Correct, if you fully develop the biggest sized planet you’ll be pushing it with 16gb.

I just need to get a bit further into the game, but having gone from a blank canvas to a population of just 50 and losing 20% of my cpu power already, it doesn’t bode well for a full planet of 800-1000. At least my 7900xtx is carrying the rest, but I’ve also gone from a solid 120fps to 100 or so.

Will probably order this week now that I’m back playing X4. Current basket, not too dissimilar to before and taking onboard the feedback above:

7800x3d
Corsair vengeance 32GB 6000CL30
Corsair TM30 paste
ASU’s TUF gaming B650plus
Coolermaster Masterliquid 240
SN850X 2TB

Does that work?

Mulling over a case upgrade, but will do that end of the year I think.

With the prospect of ordering tomorrow morning:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £808.96 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Was debating between CL30 vs 36 Ram and realising I don’t need RGB. It was also noted I should aim for EXPO ram.

Along with a thermalright frost commander cooler.

Solid choices but £150 for the 2tb sn850x is crazy imo opinion, could save yourself £35 take a look at the 2tb adata xpg gammix s70 blade
