A historic sycamore tree which stood in a dramatic dip in Hadrian's Wall appears to have been felled overnight, the national park has said.

I wonder if it's a Farmer that's done it, and was hoping people would blame Storm Agnes bringing it down

With all that is wrong in the world right now, sometimes the it's the most innocuous things really make me anngry and this is one of them. What on earth does the person who has done this think they have achieved, it was such an iconic location and the beauty of it has been robbed from us. I feel as angry right now as when the Crooked House in Himley "suffered" a fire and was then quickly demolished last month, which I'm still ******* angry about.

What sort of **** would do that!

That’s just awful to see, hope they catch who did this.

To think how long it’s been standing and some **** comes along and does this.

Was featured in Robin Hood Prince of thieves movie as well.

Really struggle to understand why people do stuff like this - it's not like drunk teenagers finding it funny to smash up a bus stop or someone cutting down a tree so they can get more light or whatever... it's just... why would you go out of your way to do that?

The scum should be fined for all future tourism losses.
Probably never be caught. Unless anyone saw something.

And it must just be vandalism. I mean what could you possibly gain from this?
