Is this a good pc build on a budget, any bottlenecking on Fortnite 1080p ultra low settings?

@Gray2233 i'm used to smaller builds by now lol

3700x + 1080ti with an atx psu squeezed into a rvz03 (14L) sff case
(didn't even bother with short cables  )

Tbh unless someone specifically asks for a midi tower + build I almost always default to m-atx or smaller depending on the person's needs. I'd rather have the smaller footprint and I find the same stands true for most people requesting builds once they actually see the sizes of the different formats.

I'm also a tight/stubborn git and that formula gold is an excellent PSU outside of the difficulty in wrangling it.

@Gray2233 agree, i also always go with matx when building for family/friends and yes the formula gold is still an excellent psu :D
(excepting for the 11700 rig, but that's because i got a really good deal on the cpu/mobo bundle lol)

fans are cheap to buy, and not really needed for a low power build that won't use 300w at full pelt
modularity is overrated, especially for a low wattage psu, this is me building in the kolink matx that i've linked:
Is the OP not getting a 6800XT? Thought it was a high powered and hot GPU that needed good air flow.

As for the PSU, that was a suggestion based on my own preference. Can't remember the last time i used a none modular one.

i am not recommending the latest AM5 build unless you have plans to upgrade in the future
the 5800x3d is a better cpu for fortnite competitive than the ryzen 7600 (closest price competitor)
interesting vid of the 7600x v 5800x3d for fortnite, but still not sure that would convince me to go am4 and lose the upgradeability of am5..though understand your reasoning as he's only after fortnite, but he did say he wants to be able to upgrade it
just pausing the vid shows fps of the 7600x at close to 500 with 1% lows at 205...i know the 5800x3d is 700 and 260 but is that going to be noticeable? genuine question there?
...guessing op has a 1080 240hz gaming monitor, hence the 240 question multiple times, but don't think a 1% low over 200 is going to cause any stutters somehow and a 450+ fps av is more than enough to max out anything..saving £150 diff from 5800x3d to 7600x cpu cost diff more than offset the ram £40 (£60 up to £100) and mobo £90 or less (b650 tuf gaming wifi new vs a 2nd hand b5550 boards £80...or can go cheaper gigabyte b650 eagle £140 for or gaming x £150 for example)

agree, OP said this:
So what 2nd hand cpu and gpu combo would you recommend and should I go with am5

so i said:
for this, you do gain the advantage of swapping out the cpu later down the line for something that will be more powerful than the 5800x3d, so depends if you think that is worth the tradeoff

second hand + AM5 isn't really worth it outside of MM (despite me building my AM5 rig from second hand components lol)
all horses for courses really

If I havent given enough information sorry you can just ask
It's your money, your decision. We all have our own ideas for what you should do and i don't think any are really wrong
1) if you want the fastest now then go the 5800x3d/b550/32gb ddr4 route. It'll give you what you want but you're on an end of life platform and this is as good as it'll get...want to upgrade, you need new everything(mobo/cpu/ram)
2) go with a 7600x/b650/32gb ddr5 route. you will be slightly behind in fortnite but still get close 450+fps av at 1080p(1% lows still above 200fps)so it'll max out a 240hz monitor. Current gen platform and you'll be able to drop a later gen cpu in without having to change your mobo or ram(that's quite a saving n my book). 7600x on a par really with 5800x3d..50 game av below(they have 50 game av 5800x3d 4% slower at 1080p, but fornite likes the vcache, so that one's faster)
if you can find a 2nd hand 7700 or 7700x for £200, get that as it on a par with 5800x3d for fortnite(though vid is 1080 epic quality 4min43)
7700x works out 10% faster than the 5800x3d on 42 game av, though forniter not in there

3)if you don't mind either way and don't plan any upgrades, get whichever one is the cheapest that you can find

Are you ever going to play some other games..only asking as for several years my son just played fornite, which is fair enough...then all of a sudden he stopped (still goes back occasionally) but now he plays way more, and not just online shooters but single player games also. Think his friends starting playing other stuff too, and online gaming is more social as well, so they all just naturally started trying different games... for some strange reason he likes to go around and complete them all in epic hard mode or whatever(single player that is)...anyway, if you think you'll branch out, I'd go am5

In q1 this year(jan/feb/mar) AM5 overtook AM4 as the number 1 build now for amd as prices had dropped enough for new builds that people naturally went am5 over am4 now...that'll only accelerate I think, and as am5 becomes more dominant and am4 declines, you'll get more am5 parts 2nd hand and am4 parts wmanufacturing will decline also...personally, I'd only go am4 for budget build now...something I'm actually doing for my nephew, but I'm limiting cpu/mobo/ram to £200(so 5600x/b550/32gb ram...should get it for less atm with patience)...that way upgrade in future wont hurt as much

Just to clear up, the term competitive settings is used in term for performance mode, which turns off all of the eye candy, removal of long grass etc to allow you to have better visual distances etc. And to pwn noobs ofc. And greater FPS.

Epic upgraded to UE5 about a year ago which is neither CPU or GPU heavy, it's rather a mixed bag. My example of a 5600x and a 3050 is meh at best because let's be honest, who uses a 3050?

As I said before, I play at 2560x1440 and average 200fps, highs of 250ish and lows of 175ish. I get it, it's not an accurate benchmark but it's something. My friend uses an i9 with a 3060ti (why?!) on an ultra wide, 3840x1600 and gets an average of 15% more FPS than I do.

Do you think I should go with 7700x and 3060?
